What Microneedling Can and Can’t Do for Your Skin
An honest look at one of the most requested treatments at Event Skincare in Kelowna
Microneedling: Powerful, Yes—But Not a Miracle Cure
Microneedling is one of the most in-demand treatments at Event Skincare, and for good reason. It’s backed by solid research, minimal downtime, and visible results. But like all treatments, microneedling has strengths—and limits.
This guide outlines what microneedling can and can’t do, based on both science and real-world experience in our Kelowna studio.
What Microneedling Can Do
1. Stimulate Collagen and Elastin
Microneedling uses ultra-fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny channels kickstart your skin’s natural repair process, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for structure and elasticity.
Over time, skin becomes firmer, more supple, and more resilient.
2. Improve Skin Texture and Pore Size
Microneedling is highly effective for:
Softening rough patches
Refining enlarged pores (especially around the nose and cheeks)
Evening out post-acne texture
After a series of treatments, many clients notice smoother, more uniform skin.
3. Soften Fine Lines
Microneedling can reduce the visibility of fine lines by improving skin thickness and hydration. It’s especially effective around the eyes and mouth, where skin tends to thin with age.
Note: it softens—not erases—lines.
4. Enhance Topical Absorption
Microneedling temporarily increases your skin’s absorption capacity, allowing targeted ingredients like peptides and stem cell cytokines to reach deeper layers.
At Event Skincare, we use treatment-safe, high-performance formulas to get the most out of this window.
What Microneedling Can’t Do
1.Can Microneedling Help with Pigment? Not Directly — And That’s Okay
Microneedling is often marketed as a pigment-correcting treatment, but the reality is more nuanced.
At Event Skincare, we follow expert-backed protocols, including those outlined by Dr. Lance Setterfield, who cautions against using microneedling for melasma or deep pigmentation. There is a risk of worsening pigment, especially when used too aggressively or without the correct actives.
We use either hyaluronic acid or AnteAGE microneedling solution — both of which support repair and collagen production, but do not include pigment-suppressing ingredients. That means microneedling may improve tone indirectly through better skin function, but it’s not a targeted solution for discoloration.
If pigment is your concern, we offer better alternatives:
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for widespread sun damage
Cryotherapy using the Freeze Pen for isolated sun spots, age spots, and keratoses
These options allow us to treat pigmentation safely and effectively, without relying on overstated microneedling claims.
2. Lift Sagging Skin
Microneedling improves firmness, but it doesn’t lift.
Surgery is often the best option for addressing noticeable laxity, particularly along the jawline or neck. However, for those seeking non-invasive alternatives, we may recommend enhancing your treatment plan with options such as Broadband Infrared or Radio Frequency. These advanced technologies can provide deeper collagen stimulation, helping to restore your skin's firmness and elasticity effectively.

3. Erase Deep Wrinkles or Scars
While microneedling can soften deep lines and scars, it won’t remove them. Significant texture issues often require fractional lasers (like Er:YAG) or other modalities to fully address.
For advanced resurfacing, see our Advanced Treatment options.
4. Deliver Instant Results
You may notice a glow and smoother skin after one session, but true collagen remodelling takes time.
Microneedling works best in a series of 3–6 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. Maintenance is typically once or twice per year.
5. Be Done Safely by Just Anyone
This is important: microneedling needs to be performed by a trained professional using sterile, single-use devices.
DIY rollers put you at risk for:
Infection
Scarring
Pigmentation issues
At Event Skincare, we use precise stamping microneedling (not dragging pens) for maximum comfort and results, with full safety protocols in place.
Who’s Microneedling Best For?
Microneedling is ideal for:
Women in their 30s–50s looking to maintain or rebuild collagen
Those experiencing uneven skin tone or mild texture concerns
Clients wanting a natural, subtle improvement without downtime
It’s also a great entry point into more advanced skin therapies when used as part of a customized treatment plan
Microneedling is a powerful, versatile treatment for improving skin health — especially when it’s done correctly and as part of a personalized skincare plan.
It boosts collagen, refines texture, and softens the early signs of aging. But it’s not a replacement for everything. For lifting, deeper wrinkles, or significant sun damage, we may recommend layering it with advanced technology or other treatments.
